The end of the high school wrestling season is right around the corner and a number of area wrestlers will be on the floor at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus for the state wrestling tournament. 

The top four wrestlers in each weight class at last weekend’s district tournaments qualified for the state meet and here is a breakdown on who’s going: 

Division III 

Garaway qualified eight wrestlers for the big show. 

Mitchell Tetreault won the title at 150 pounds and Thomas Grimm (215) finished second. Bryce Books (106), Luke Miller (113), Braylon Books (144), Colton Domer (165) and Matt Frey (175) were all third, while Dillon King (190) was fourth. 

Also qualifying at the Division III tournament were Owen Simpson (4rd at 132) and Asher Crissey (4th at 120) from Sandy Valley; Joey Benson (4th at 285) from Fairless; Aadon Slaughter (4th at 150) from Ridgewood; and Martin Hernandez (2nd at 285) from Newcomerstown. 

Barnesville won the team title at Coshocton with 188.5 points, while Garaway was second with 176. 

Division II 

In the Division II field at Gallia Academy, four wrestlers from Claymont and West Holmes advanced to the state meet, while Indian Valley qualified three. 

DreVonn Searcy (138) and Kamden Stout (165) both won titles for the Mustangs, while Nile Abbuhl (144) was third and Daniel McGarr (132) was fourth. 

Peyton Martin (120) won an individual title for the Knights, while Louden Dixon (157) and Easton Ross (215) finishing second, while Gabe Umstead (126) was fourth. 

Bodie Raymond won the title at 113 pounds to lead Indian Valley, while Bronco Braun (120) was second and Brock Albright (126) was third. 

Carrollton’s Cael Lowdermilk (138) finished second, while Sawyer Broadwater (113) was third. 

New Lexington won the team title with 151 points, while Claymont (125) was third, West Holmes (104.5) was fifth and Indian Valley (104) sixth. 

Division I

New Philadelphia’s Tyler Ulmer (132) finished fourth in the Division I tournament at Wadsworth. 

Dover competed in the Division I field at Perrysburg, but did not advance a wrestler to the state meet. Brock Reynolds (113) finished fifth for the Tornadoes and will be a state alternate. 

GIRLS 

Tusky Valley’s Tori Wilson (145) and Carrollton’s Riley Alborn (190) both won championships in the girls’ district tournament at Mentor. 

Also qualifying at the Mentor tournament were Claymont’s Laiken Warner (105) and New Philadelphia’s Isabelle Ramirez (190). Both finished fourth. 

SCHEDULE 

The state meet kicks off Friday and will operate on the following schedule: FRIDAY – 1 p.m., championship preliminaries and Round 1 consolation 

SATURDAY – 9:30 a.m., championship quarterfinals and Round 2 consolation; 5 p.m., championship semifinals and consolation quarterfinals. 

SUNDAY – 9:30 a.m., consolations; 5 p.m., Parade of Champions and all finals. THE PAST
