Dave DiDonato is back at it.
The veteran high school baseball coach has targeted another spot.
He will be the new baseball coach at Claymont High.
“I guess I’m just obsessed with it,” DiDonato laughed.
The Mustangs are getting an experienced coach. DiDonato started at Indian Valley North and was the first coach at Indian Valley following the consolation. During that run, he guided the Braves to the state tournament in 1990, where they finished as Class A runners-up.
They made the Division III final four in 2003.
With a record of 466-265, DiDonato has been inducted into the Eastern District Hall of Fame and the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. He was the ECOL Coach of the Year six times and the PAC Coach of the Year three times. He was also named the East District Coach of the Year three times.
DiDonato has been an assistant at Claymont for the last two years and threw his hat into the ring when Logan Addison stepped aside.
“You know, I started out playing Little League in Dennison and I’m from the Uhrichsville/Dennison area, so it’s nice to wrap it up like this,” he said.
DiDonato will be joined by another familiar face in Mark Huston, who has been a pitching/assistant coach going back to the Indian Valley days.
“It will be special to be doing this with Mark,” he said.
“I knew I was approaching the record, but at the end of the day, that’s not what this is about. It’s more about getting to the next week successful and healthy. Thankfully, we got both done tonight.”
